4-H College Scholarships.

There are many advantages to being involved in 4-H and one of them is it helps you prepare for college. One benefit in particular is the availability of 4-H scholarship funds.
High School Seniors 4-H participants may apply for scholarships. Over 70 different scholarships are offered, although some are restricted to certain criteria. Scholarship awards range in amounts from $500 to $2000.

If you are not a senior, it’s not too early to get ready to apply. Your scholarship is strengthened by the 4-H activities you participate in. So make some goals now!

The application form is due each year in mid-January. If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, contact the 4-H office.

Honey Bee Essay Contest

Show your love for honey bees and writing and possibly win some money!

NC first place winner is $50.00
First place national winner is $750.

Here's the topic:

"U.S. Honey: A Taste for Every Preference"
The taste and color of honey varies according to flowers where the bees gather the nectar. Each different type of plant will yield honey with a different taste. The same plants, growing in different soils and climates, can yield different honey. Investigate the local/regional honeys of the United States and see how they differ in taste and color. Is a honey dark with a rich flavor, or light in color and mild-tasting? One honey may be the choice for topping your pancakes; another may be best for baking cookies or cakes. Actual access to the honey for tasting is not required - just find out about some of the characteristics and write about them.

Explore Food Fun

4-H Food Connections

Join us for November fun for 7-11 year olds. Explore food fun as you find out where your favorite foods come from. Make some yummy treats. Themes include
chocolate, peanuts, pumpkins, popcorn. Meeting dates are Wednesdays, November 3, 10, 17 and December 1 from 3:30-5:00 at the Agricultural Conference Center. Call 264-3061 or see our blog. No meeting November 24.

New 4-H groups starting up


Do you enjoy exploring different, fun hands-on activities? Two new 4-H groups are meeting to help youth explore the world of 4-H. 5-8 year olds will meet Thursday, October 21 at 6:00 pm . 9-11 year olds will meet Tuesday, October 26. The meetings will be held at the Agricultural Conference Center. 4-H: a place where can kids can have fun, explore science, healthy lifestyles, plants and animals, earth education and more, while making new friends! 4-H is where young people
explore, learn and discover is a safe environment. In 4-H, youth find their true passions, gain confidence and give back to their community.

Celebrate 4-H as youth step up and take responsibility for their futures- and ours.

Calling Horse Lovers

We are in the process of planning a horse show. Helpers would be appreciated.
Right now, volunteers are needed for the horse show planning committee. We are planning a youth-oriented show for our community. All are welcome! Next meeting is October 12 at 6:15 at the Agricultural Conference Center.

4-H Information Session

Looking for engaging activities to nurture your children? Find out about opportunities for youth at the 4-H Information session. New groups are starting: a 5-8 year old group, a 9-10 year old group and more. 4-H is open to 5-18 year olds to explore a wide range of topics, from science to plants and animals. The session is Tuesday, September 21 at 6:00 at the Agricultural Conference Center. For more information, contact 264-3061.
